It is called different things - channel pressure, breath, etc. I've had the most success with Mono After touch. The main thing you should know is that the EWI sends Mono Aftertouch as well as a host of other breath modulated midi signals. In Logic 7, find that same folder in your user library-Sampler Instruments. I named my folder EWI, all my EWI instruments get put there for easy reference. ~/library/application support/logic/plug-in settings/EXS24/NAME YOUR FOLDER. You'll have to place it in your presets folder so that when you open the EXS24, you can select it. So, if you were building an EXS instrument for use with a breath controller, would you make two separate instruments (tongued and non-tongued) using a program change to swap back and forth, or, might there some path to using the same instrument but somehow triggering the noisy attack only when the player actually "tongues" the breath controller?

Ideally, I think it would be more natural to have the full velocity range available using either articulation. In practice, though, tonguing can be applied at all volume and intensity levels. Trying for the latter, I thought at first it might be best to simply add tonguing sounds (noise, etc.) to the upper end of the velocity range. Or, would it be desirable (or even possible) to combine the two attack types into a single program. Since wind instruments allow for a variety of attacks, I'm trying to figure out if one would create separate programs for tongued vs. In my little Gedankenexperiment so far, I've been able to envision technical solutions to most of my questions - with one exception: tonguing. Sometime within the next month or so, I think I'll pick up a rudimentary breath controller set-up (probably a Yamaha BC3A and Midi Solutions Breath Controller) until I can afford the digital trumpet I've been eyeing. (Thanks, ski!) I think I've got a pretty good handle on it - conceptually anyway. So, I spent a fair amount of time considering various ways I might use the EXS and transformer with a breath controller.
